Water filter guides for UK homes

Find the right
water filter.
Keep it working.

Compare jugs, gravity filters, tap and under-sink systems, and countertop appliances. Check the fit, find the right refill and understand the upkeep before buying.

Find your starting point

A clearer route to the right choice.

Start with the system you want, the replacement you need or the question you are trying to answer.

Before you buy

A useful filter starts with three checks.

01

What do you want to change?

Taste, kettle scale and a named reduction claim are different decisions. Separate taste from limescale.

02

What will fit your routine?

For a jug, compare the water ready to pour with what you use at once. Then measure the shelf and removal space.

03

Can you keep it supplied?

Find the exact refill before buying the system. Compare annual cartridge costs using your current pack price and consumption.

These are examples of different formats, with different fitting and treatment requirements. Read the relevant guide before choosing a model.

The next refill. The right care.

A slow filter or an overdue reminder is a reason to check the system, not automatically replace the whole thing.

Start with a useful answer

Common questions about home water filters.

Do I need a water filter in the UK?

If your tap water is safe to drink and you like its taste, a filter may add little. A taste preference or scale-related aim is a different question from a new supply concern. Start with our UK decision guide; contact your supplier about a new or unexpected change.

Which type of filter suits my kitchen?

Compare the purpose, available space and upkeep first. A jug needs refilling, a tap-mounted unit needs a compatible outlet, and an under-sink system needs installation and access. Use the buying-advice guide to choose a route, including gravity and countertop appliance options.

Will a water filter reduce limescale?

Only choose a product for scale when the exact cartridge has the relevant hardness-reduction claim. A taste-focused filter does not automatically do the same job, and a jug does not treat water flowing to the rest of the home. Read taste filtration versus limescale reduction.

How do I find the right replacement cartridge?

Match the device model, cartridge family, generation and fitting. A familiar brand or similar shape is not enough. The compatibility directory separates jug, tap, gravity and RO families, with links to the detailed checks.

Keep the purpose clear
